I am the daughter of a World War II veteran and the wife of a retired Air Force Master Sargeant, and I am very proud of both of them. Neither of them had to be forced to step up and protect and defend their country. They volunteered. And now I am the grandmother-in-law of a new Air Force recruit, of whom I am equally proud. We fly the American flag in our front yard 365 days a year, with a light on it at night, so that ther eis not mistake about our loyalty lies. What if they and all the other servicemen down through the generations said "I could never do that" and then didn't? Where would we be today? What kind of life would we be living? What opportunities would we have? What flag would be flying over our land. I'd like to think that if it came down to it and you were needed, that you would decide that you could do that.

Yes it is a great thing that so many people will stand in front of us and guard our lives and freedom wherever they are told to serve. I for one remember WWII because my father and his brothers all served in the war and just after. Some served in areas of great danger and one carried shrapnel to his grave, many years latter. Others never saw action but all came home. Many father was injured, in an exercise, and his life was changed forever. He was going to be a farmer like his father but the injury required him to chose a vocation that was not so physical.
The politics of where you serve can be questioned by all because we live in a free country. Remember that all the world watched as Hitler slowly started his rain of terror and all tried to stay out of it while he professed hate and control of others. He taught his people that they had the right to take the lands of others and kill others based on this hate and intolerance.
Remember history will always repeat if we do not become a student of history and then use that knowledge for current decision making. Never allow anyone to feed you the crap that it will never happen again because history proves it will, over and over. If you look very closely at the beliefs and politics of many countries in our world today you will see that they believe in the violent over throw of others and death to those that are different. Unfortunately most Americans are way to comfortable and think that all the world is like The USA and that anything can be solved by talking. Has anyone had any luck talking a bully out of his agenda. I could go on but will stop and say THANK YOU to all that serve and their families.
